type='text'>Cover Letter

This is one of the letter we write to the companies in AIESEC to apply for an international intership.

Dear Manager,

I think that the study of Modern Languages allows you not only to know the grammatical structure, oral expression and everything that relates to the study of languages; but also lets you learn and know about the culture, manifestations, habits, traditions, music, and everything that refers to the country or countries that speak these languages that are being studied.

It also increases your comprehension and of course your tolerance when you share, interact, exchange or live together with other people who speak these languages and of course you also learn to tolerate another culture completely different that your own.

I have learned this throughout my whole major and also sharing with AIESEC people, who come from all different regions of the world. I consider this as a good experience that I have been fortunate enough to have in my country.

I would like to work in another country to put into practice all this knowledge that I have acquired in almost five years studying at the Distinguished Universidad del Zulia. I know that the experience that I am going to acquire is going to be useful for me to continue and to carry out my major in teaching in Venezuela.

I consider that being a teacher is one of the most complete and integrated professions that exists in the whole world.
Furthermore to share and exchange with people completely different than yourself is a unique life experience that satisfies and helps you to grow as a human being in this world.

As a student at a University with one of the highest levels of academic excellence in Venezuela, I consider that I am a suitable and capable person to carry out my teaching, not only in my country but also in other countries. Already studying some languages (Italian and Portuguese, both in basic level, French and English) has opened my mind to greater knowledge. It has also given me the ability to apply this knowledge in the context of both national and international educational. It also has helped me to obtain knowledge about other aspects of the languages, such as; the literature, culture, traditions, and others.

On another side, all my experiences in this field have helped me to develop as a complete person on the professional level, and also on the human level as a responsible, serious, punctual, dedicated, collaborative, and proactive person.

I would like to finish with a phrase that is very inspirational to me, since I read “The Alchemist”, by the Brazilian writer Paulo Coelho, which says:

“When you really want something, the entire universe conspires and helps you to achieve everything which you desire”

Resume explanation

Terminology

The Latin term curriculum vitae (often abbreviated CV) is used preferentially in many places outside of the Anglo-American world.

Curriculum vitae is Latin meaning "course of life" and résumé is French meaning "summary". In the business world, the word résumé (also spelled resumé and resume) is used especially in the United States and in English Canada.

In North America, Australia, and India the terms "résumé" and "CV" may be used interchangeably. However, a résumé more often has a free-form organizational style and is used for seeking employment in the private sector, whereas a curriculum vitae (also called a vita, but not curriculum vita, see below) usually has a more standardized look and format for the purpose of seeking positions in academic or educational institutions. Another difference is that a résumé tends to be more descriptive and tailored for a specific purpose or target audience, whereas a curriculum vitae tends to be organized in a way that presents data about one's self in a compact fashion, with a clear chronology. For example, a résumé may begin with a statement about a personal goal, followed by a list of most significant accomplishments or characteristics in order of significance, while a curriculum vitae often includes complete and unembellished lists of data such as educational institutions attended, degrees received, positions held, professional affiliations, publications authored, etc. A résumé may or may not be represented by the person as a complete history of themselves without omission, whereas a curriculum vitae usually implies that there are no omissions, and in particular, no temporal gaps between listed items.

Styles

A résumé is a summary typically limited to one or two pages of size A4 or Letter-size highlighting only those experiences and credentials that the author considers most relevant to the desired position. Simple résumés may be organized in different ways:

Chronological résumé

A chronological résumé enumerates a candidate's job experiences in reverse chronological order.

The chronological résumé format is by far the most common résumé layout in use. In using this format, the main body of the document becomes the Professional Experience section, starting from the most recent experience going chronologically backwards through a succession of previous experience. The chronological résumé works to build credibility through experience gained, while illustrating career growth over time. In the United Kingdom the chronological résumé tends to extend only as far back as the subject's GCSE/Standard Grade qualifications.

Functional résumé

A functional résumé lists work experience and skills sorted by skill area or job function.

The functional résumé is used to assert a focus to skills that are specific to the type of position being sought. This format directly emphasizes specific professional capabilities and utilizes experience summaries as its primary means of communicating professional competency. In contrast, the chronological résumé format will briefly highlight these competencies prior to presenting a comprehensive timeline of career growth via reverse-chronological listing with most recent experience listed first. The functional resume works well for those making a career change, having a varied work history and with little work experience. A functional résumé is also preferred for applications to jobs that require a very specific skill set or clearly defined personality traits.

Combination résumé

The combination résumé balances the functional and chronological approaches. A résumé organized this way typically leads with a functional list of job skills, followed by a chronological list of employers. Each group was asked to give four reasons for its recommendation.

The men's group decided that 'computer' should definitely be of the
feminine gender ('la computadora'), because:

1. No one but their creator understands their internal logic;

2. The native language they use to communicate with other computers
is incomprehensible to everyone else;

3. Even the smallest mistakes are stored in long term memory for
possible later retrieval; and

4. As soon as you make a commitment to one, you find yourself
spending half your paycheck on accessories for it.

(THIS GETS BETTER!)

The women's group, however, concluded that computers should be
Masculine ('el computador'), because:

1. In order to do anything with them, you have to turn them on;

2. They have a lot of data but still can't think for themselves;

3. They are supposed to help you solve problems, but half the time they ARE the problem; and

4. As soon as you commit to one, you realize that if you had waited a little longer, you could have gotten a better model.

The women won.

Interview with Jorge Besson

This are the questions and answers I did with my friend Jorge.

in:

http://www.ubuntu.com/products/whatisubuntu/804features/

The article talks about the new features of linux ubuntu 8.04, what you can find and what modules the programmers perform to simplify the use of ubuntu and give it more benefits.

I found two words and i didn't know what does it mean.

Paragraph:

"Music and video: Plug in your PSP, iPod, MP3 player; share playlists with your friends; buy in the creative commons online music stores, stream more live radio and plug in more devices with UPnP."

Word "stream": It has a lot of meanings, as a noun, as a trasitive verb and as an intransitive verb. The most relative to my reading was:

v.tr. Computer Science. To transmit (data) in real time, especially over the Internet.

So now I can understand where says stream more live radio, that means to tune radio stations in internet.

Word "UPnP": abbrebiation that means "Universal plug and play".

Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) is a set of computer network protocols promulgated by the UPnP Forum. The goals of UPnP are to allow devices to connect seamlessly and to simplify the implementation of networks in the home (data sharing, communications, and entertainment) and corporate environments. UPnP achieves this by defining and publishing UPnP device control protocols built upon open, Internet-based communication standards.

In other words this UPnP is the protocol or the rule in the operative system that allows to "connect" and "disconect" easely, or to plug and unplug devices and to use it just in the moment you conected!

The dictonaries i used where:
http://www.wordreference.com/definition/
http://www.answers.com/
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/

Another usefull dictonaries are:
http://www.m-w.com/
http://www.yourdictionary.com/diction4a.html#electronics

My classmates

I'm the one to the left, my firend Besson is next to me, and my new friend Alfredo is the one to the right in the picture.

Jorge Besson; i met him at work, he was the new morning english teacher in WSI, and we had to start a project together organizing an Activity for the students. My name’s Pedro Bracho but you can call meon the cell phone. I’m from Valencia, originally. I used to live in Barquisimeto for 14 years, right now I live in Maracaibo, in Bella Vista. I’m 24 years old and I study engineering at URBE . My favourite subjects are Database and some programming ones.

I love reggae and techno music , dancing almost everything, to travel, surfing the net , teaching English, talking on the msn with my friends, and camping around my country.

I hate blogs because I’m banned, listening to regueaton, garbage on the street, the car horns, addicts to facebook cause they send me around 1000 mails per day.

My dream is to travel to Belgium, Greece, almost all of North-Europe and Argentina, visit the where all the genius where discussing about philosophy. Next year, I want to graduate from Engineering School and be a great manager. I also want to learn to speak French, and German. I’d love to work in an important company and buy a house, get married and start a family.

About English, I love to learn it but sometimes I hate to speak it. I work every day as a personal tutor of English, but after 9pm I want to change to another language. I think English is the most important language if you want to share with people around the world, to work abroad or just to understand most of the music and movies.
